TAKE-OFF AGAINST COVID
Our official crowdfunding campaign to help the Hospital of Bergamo, terribly hit by the COVID-19 outbreak.
Well, honestly a lot of time passed since my last post here, I’ve been super busy with Hours Building and Theory for the Variable Pitch Propeller rating for the SEP.
Anyway, here we are with a quick overview on this new plugin (XP2Earth) that is creating a lot of debate in the X-Plane community. I’ve seen this plugin in the X-Plane.org forum, free to download and I did not understand immediately what it was and what it was going to add to the X-Plane Scenery.
I’ve to be honest, in the first istance i thought that it was going to create a dynamic orthophoto with 3d elements basically bringing 3d google Earth into X-Plane and my reaction was WOW.
Unfortunately after a few seconds I realized that this addon was going to do the exact opposite thing: it will take position data from X-Plane and bring them into Google Earth that will match your pilot view.
Well, I want to be clear with you: does this plugin have a utility at all? Is that meant as a preview of the amazing city details that FS2020 should have (as you can see in the header image)? Personally when I use a flight simulator I don’t look at another window of another computer to see what it should look like and then I have my cockpit and instruments on the actual flight sim.
I mean the simulator is meant to fly, not to look at google earth, am I wrong? I can’t see how this is useful during an approach when you have to monitor your flight parameters strictly like airspeed, altitude and fly the approach, maybe with an ATC (if you fly online). In those circumstances you have to pay attention to your airplane and not to google earth, honestly.
For this reason I really think that you can give this plugin a very quick try, just to see how it would like to fly over your city if you were flying a real plane and then trash it and go back flying seriously your plane in the actual simulator. I’m sorry if I was strict and maybe cruel in this overview, don’t take me wrong any freeware addition to the community is welcome everytime, but I just don’t understand people that comes and tell me:”wow look at this new plugin, it’s revolutionary, it’s going to change the way we fly in X-Plane“; well for those peaple from my side It’s a no.
